Balbina Bruszewska, a director whose 'Wiara, nadzieja, miłość' ('Faith, Hope, Love') received a distinction at KAN 2004 and whose 'Blue Caterpillar' was screened at KAN 2005, has this time reached for the Grand Prix. In 2009, her animation 'Miasto płynie' was granted the main prize at VII Przegląd Filmów Studenckich 'Łodzią po Wiśle', a student films competition. It was considered one of the most interesting entries. 'Miasto Płynie' has also been awarded second prize at 3rd Film and Art Festival 'Dwa Brzegi' ('Two Riversides') 2009 – for technical prowess and versatility of used means - as well as the first prize for the best polish film at International Animated Film Festival ReAnimacja. The work also received a diploma of honour from the recognized Cracovian 'Etiuda&Anima' Festival - the oldest festival organized by (and for) film and art schools, as well as for artists working with animation. 'Miasto płynie' is a socio-political tale placed in the director's loved city - Łódź. The realistic animation investigates the absurdities of Polish urban spaces, and discovers mysticism in the massive agglomeration. Everything is sieved through the day-to-day existence of the city-dwellers: their problems, their conversations. Music, and a occasional witty song, enriches all. The director has already new animations on the agenda, and she is involved in what can well be the biggest Polish animated production, 'Serce w murze' ('HEART in the WALL'), It is an original interpretation of the events of the life of Fryderyk Chopin, and one that deviates greatly from the commonly established opinion of the pianist. Despite connection to the celebrations of the Chopin's Year, the film will screen a year later, in 2011. The creators assure, that it will be worth the wait. The work is aimed an international audience. |
